In a year of significant departures, these are two of the less well publicised but most poignant.

My colleagues in the Ministry of Justice have published an advertisement for successors to Nathaniel and Paul when their respective Rule Committee appointments end in August. It appears at: https://publicappointments.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/appointment/pat-150069-one-barrister-and-one-solicitor-of-the-criminal-procedure-rule-committee/.

I think that those conducting the recruitment have written to all relevant organisations, but in any event I should be grateful if those to whom I have addressed this message could ensure that the pending vacancies are advertised within the professions and professional associations and, equally importantly, could encourage applications by individuals whom you think might be interested in, and qualified for, appointment.

I’ve done my best to restrain my colleagues’ enthusiasm for inappropriate corporate hyperbole but I doubt I’ve been entirely successful. So although the advertisement no longer invites applicants to provide evidence of their leadership qualities and vision for the organisation, which I thought might unsettle the Committee chairman (especially if people did), there may survive other phrases that will raise a quizzical eyebrow. I hope that that won’t put people off.
