The next Criminal Justice System Common Platform Update for defence practitioners will take place on 28 February
2019.
During the session we would also like to hear defence practitioners' ideas on how case progression in the Magistrates'
Court could be improved.
This is an area that Crown Prosecution Service, police and HMCTS are reviewing. We would like to work with defence
practitioners to identify areas of good practice and changes that could be repeated nationally to ensure a more consistent and effective approach to case progression.
The aim is to improve the number of trials that are dealt with on the day they are originally listed and reduce the
amount of administrative effort needed by all parties to progress a case to trial.
During the session we will also give an update on the progress of the Common Platform defence access to the initial
details of the prosecution case pilot in Liverpool.
Defence practitioners can participate in the meeting from a location of their choice by joining us online. It will
take place between 4pm and 6.00pm on 28 February 2019.
