Dear Member
In case you missed it from the email that was sent out on Friday , please see the table below . if you have any such examples of LGFS cases which have been so grossly underpaid, please kindly complete the table and return it so that we
can gather evidence and demonstrate how widespread the problem is and the urgent need to resolve it .
Many of us who are still conducting this work regularly experience those disappointing moments when we realise that the hours of client care , preparation and travelling to see clients are rewarded with paltry fixed fees.
Recently the following examples have been published elsewhere
“ Needy client , elected crown court trial in £35,000 fraud , WIP on file was £1310 . Fee paid by LAA less than £400”
“ just billed 18 months of work on an attempt murder charge ( very bulky file) for princely sum of £650…it was an extremely complex case with very significant issues”
Given the delay before anything is changed , we really need to continue to send the message home and perhaps even ask the question as to whether we should be conducting these cases at all given the likely delay before any reforms are even
consulted upon .
It would therefore be of great benefit and assistance to be able to provide as many examples of cases similar to the examples above . Whilst the MOJ should have the data , it is not clear ad to whether it is readily available.
Please could you take a few minutes to cut , paste and complete this table below with at least one example of such cases ( but add more if you are inclined to do so) and return it to
