See below , anyone got an example that tey wish to cite , if not I will ask members , but suspect I won’t get as many replies as I did for the request for a courier form Brimingham to London !
Dear Jonathan,
I’m working on a story on “idle courts” with my colleague the BBC’s Legal Affairs Correspondent Clive Coleman.
We’ve been monitoring the situation and collecting stats – I’m sure the results won’t surprise you. What I’m after is tricky – but with your contacts with criminal solicitors in London I’m hoping
you can help.
We’d like to speak to someone who has had their case listed for some time in the future (I heard of a 2-3 day trial fixed for June 2020 last week) even though both sides claim to be ready. It seems
to me to be ridiculous to have empty courts and judges (especially Recorders) sitting at home whilst defendants are waiting months for a hearing.
We can do any interview anonymously, if required, and we would not stray into detailed questions about their alleged offence – for obvious reasons.
If you have any other thoughts I’d be happy to hear them – perhaps give me a call?
All best,
Gaetan
