Legal protection for domestic abuse survivors driven to offend

We'd like to draw your attention to The Prison Reform Trusts call for a statutory defence to be added to the Domestic Abuse Bill - please take a look and share within your networks.

Nearly 60% of women in prison are survivors of domestic abuse and for many it was the abuse that led to their offending.  Trafficking victims have a legal defence when they are driven to offend, however there is no equivalent protection for domestic abuse survivors.

The Prison Reform Trust is therefore calling for a statutory defence to be added to the Domestic Abuse Bill.  The government is considering the proposal, and any comments or supportive case examples would be appreciated.

Please email these to the Ministry of Justice and copy in Katy at PRT.
