Not sure if courts are even worse.  Standards of hygiene are appalling.  Local gyms are doing better, and even Bodyshop is inviting people in to hand sanitise.   The MOJ are refusing to provide any adaptations at all and often don’t even have hot water or soap……  given that we have to move around the courts constantly using multiple door handles, buzzers and key pads which have probably not seen a wipe down in decades, and the handling of our personal property by security staff using the same gloves and trays without change or sanitation for thirty plus people coming to the court every  day.  Plus all those people in close proximity for hours on end.  Added to which, as in the police station, we are having to sit with clients in close proximity to take instructions, often four or five plus family in a day.  I  had a ridiculous scenario in the cells yesterday when I refused to allow my client to use my pen to sign for LA and the gaolers refused to provide one.  There was of course no sanitiser available.    I think the combination of flow through of people and lack of sanitation is going to result in a crisis in the defence, CPS, probation, YOS and court staff  before long. That is quite apart from the fact that the police seem to be quite happy to send suspected Covid 19 cases to court in custody.   Likely also police if every one carries on as is.

I’m told that in Yorkshire the police are providing special pens for use by detainees in custody.  Do the met have them?

We are front line workers with no protection at all.  But see the latest from MOJ as reported on Crimeline this evening.

I personally feel that by the end of this week it will become unsustainable. It is also not fair on the police officers and custody staff. Jurors need to be considered including Court staff. Sorry I’m just isolating this to legal although there are many other issues too like supermarket staff etc...

This will affect business with some no longer being able to survive.

Errrmmmm what will happen with police station attendances can I ask? Are we as solicitors not at risk?? Considering a cinema near me has closed its doors this is a real risk and a problem.
