Coronavirus (COVID-19)
In accordance with recent Government advice regarding COVID-19, many of our staff are now working from home. Letters sent to the office may not reach them straight away, and it will take them longer to reply by post. Please use email or phone whenever possible.

Speaking as one of 3 Custody Duties at Wimbledon MC today, People were sent from Wandsworth and Kingston. PLO Couldn’t say why Live appearances were essential in the cases which were not warrants, And in some it wasn’t obvious. 35 year old builder with 2year old on the front seat and his mum in the back; blew 54 and charged with XS alc + drunk in charge of a child./ stable address and domestic circumstances. No recent/relevant convictions. Why not just charge and bail? In warrant cases, a breach of noncontact condition made in december by sending a sms on the 5th Feb ‘Where are you hiding?’  There needs to be a protocol in warrant cases for Street bail or conditional bail to be given at the PS in most cases now that Trials are being postponed indefinitely. Just saying…

Email fraud warning
If you receive an email with details of our bank account so that you can pay us money, always telephone us to confirm the bank details using a telephone number you already know, not any number quoted in the email.
This is because the email may be from a fraudster, not from us, and the bank account details may be false. Criminals have been known to intercept genuine emails from solicitors and forward them on with the bank details changed, so however authentic the email looks you must not rely on it. In the same way, if you send us bank details by email we will normally phone you to check before we send money to you.

Subject: Urgent Message from the LCCSA

Dear Members

We continue to be concerned by the apparent “business as usual” approach being taken by the Metropolitan Police across London.

We need your help to collate some figures to assist in escalating these urgent concerns.

We are trying to build a snap shot picture as to:

1.       The numbers of people still  being arrested, taken to police stations then bailed or RUI;

2.       The numbers of people being charged and remanded for Court; and

3.       For what types of offences (especially the “low level” offences being remanded for Court).

If you were on duty last night/this morning, we would be grateful if you could take a moment to send a brief email to XXXXX telling us the above anonymised information.

Thanks

Sara.
