And btw didn't announce it was a back up at the outset and I was on verge of accepting it thinking we might have missed a duty out- not sure if deliberate but Im used to DSCC announcing at the beginning that it's a back up case and would you be able to take it on…

Subject: Police station attendance

We were on call today.

Chap gets arrested for grave & weighty matter (theft from m/v). An officer rings to say ready for i/view, I ask him to clarify why the Police think it is proportionate to take the risk of having 4 people in close proximity in a room for such a minor matter & why not simply BTR chap to a safer time.

After a bit of discussion I get put onto officer`s colleague, who cannot offer me any explanation other than “we have been told to interview”…I suggest asking for the input from a Sgt or Inspector. They agree to do that & promise to call me back once they have done that.

Next thing is the DSCC ring me to say that the cops have told them that we are refusing to attend and that they want the call deployed to a back up duty solicitor!
