Dear members,

We do not believe there are sufficient safeguards to protect members from infection in police stations and magistrates’ courts and we are doing what we can to change this situation.

We urge all members to ensure the police are held to the new protocol by constantly reminding them of it, making representations and reporting failings to the Law Society.

The situation with the courts is different.  Firstly, their attitude has been much more co-operative from the start and we have been regularly updated on attempts to establish remote access for custody cases. Secondly, in our judgement those responsible are acting in good faith but the technology is not currently in place.

The email group remains a forum for spreading news, constructive debate and seeking cover.  We ask that those who seek cover are not criticised for doing so on this email group please.

These are very difficult times, please let us aim for mutual understanding.
