Really useful Ilse! I have been trying to sort Teams for a couple of days and it kept insisting on an office 365 link. You need to jiggle the menus a bit to avoid being diverted to skype - keep ticking its for 'work' not personal.
Incidentally i have always found the DDOs at Brixton super helpful, looks like its now spread further.

Thanks again

Bruce

Good Afternoon David and Members

I was on Camberwell Green Duty overnight last night.

In short, the interviewing officers at Brixton police station have been brilliant.

They e-mailed me front sheets, and gave me disclosure either by e-mail or on the phone.

They allowed me to have a private consultation with my client in the phone booth, and they facilitated my virtual presence with a laptop in the interview room via MS Teams.  (For those who read this and don’t yet know, you don’t need to be “signed up” to MS Teams.  You simply download the app on your PC/laptop.  The police then e-mail you a link, and as soon as you click on the link, you are connected to the interview.  So just make sure you download the app.  Follow this link - https://products.office.com/en-gb/microsoft-teams/download-app  Don’t bother to enter your e-mail address; I’ve tried that, and you won’t get a link.  Just click on the “Download Teams” button, and then click on “Run” when prompted.)

All in all, I was most impressed by how accommodating the officers and even custody staff were. (That said, do use the 02086492042 number to call Custody – the other two only ever seem to ring out…)

I have been representing clients at Brixton for many years, and this is one of the rare times I’ve had a good Duty experience.

There was only one slight technical niggle, where the microphone on the laptop used in one of the interviews, was terrible, and somewhat farcically, I ended up having to ask the officer to repeat my client’s every answer!

They also seem to have a shortage of laptops.  One officer said that there weren’t any available laptops, but I put him in touch with the officer on another of my cases where I knew there was definitely a laptop available, and encouraged them to share among themselves…

(Finally, I would add that the police are still not following the CPS Charging Protocol, which from my understanding stipulates that even suspects on less serious DV cases should  be bailed immediately without interview, for the interview to be conducted down the line…  Still - small steps…  Oh, and what WILL it take for HMCTS to get with the programme re MC Duties??!!)

Good afternoon everyone.

On behalf of a colleague, who is on a Camberwell duty this afternoon and evening, I’d be interested to know of members’ recent experiences of Brixton Police Station and its engagement with the current Interview Protocol.

Regards,

David
