I have waited a diplomatic couple of weeks before posting on this stuff but seriously, what on earth are the MOJ/HMCTS doing?
I note that Kerry and Mark say that the powers that be are proceeding with good faith and diligence and they, of course sit at a higher table than I do and so would be expected to know, but if a lacklustre Government can get the Nightingale hospital up and running in 10 days why the (expletive deleted to save the blushes of more gentle readers) isnt there a link from my front room to Croydon and then to the police station?. They were working on this according to Stephen McCallister on 27th March and the Coronavirus legislation now mandates live links for goodness' sake!.

We have had heartening posts from members about individual officers jury rigging phones and laptops to enable remote interviews from the police station; so why does Julian have to risk himself and others in the sort of comedy show he describes?

Maybe i have spent too long in isolation but i dont think I am missing anything?

The original post shows what we risk and my sympathy for the poor soul who ended up seriously ill; doesanyone have an explanation - I dont intend to waste energy asking HMCTS.

And at Croydon Magistrates’ Court there is no video-link facility for defendants in custody.

I have just seen 4 clients, one by shouting through a SERCO van door because the police diagnosed the client with this virus.

After spending so much money and trumpeting video-links to police stations from Courts in the Met area, it is plain that the various powers wasted a lot of time, energy and money with public announcements and the left the new equipment to wither and die.

I have just finished three interviews at Staines and Polar Park using the protocol and after a bit of mucking about with devices on two of the interviews they went reasonably well in the circumstances. It is not worth taking the risk if you can possibly avoid it.
I was only saying yesterday to a long standing police station rep that I am surprised that we have not heard more about police officers contracting the virus. They are clearly at serious risk as well as far as I can see.

I have just heard from a police station rep and member who in hospital having contracted Covid 19 at a police station on 6th April, which I believe was  after the protocol was agreed .

He has permitted me to share this as a warning .

“nobody should be going out.
I picked it up in Wembley ps. Clients coughing in your face with no mask, no gloves and worst, not even placing g their hands by their mouth

When I asked for mask and gloves they said they had none

“On one ocassion, they managed to issue a client with mask and gloves and 5 mins into the interview he removed the lot. Police should've stepped in telling him that it's no longer safe and if he don't put it back on the interview would be suspended. Also had police officers coughing not wearing mask and not placing hand on mouth either. I picked it up around 6 April and look where it got me. They dont care.

I was stupid, that's all. I thought police was looking after whatever is in their domain but they aren't. I trusted them“

Sorry to ruin anyone’s bank holiday - or it or Wednesday now ?
