Definitely needs a rethink.
Also traditionally the courts would allow the duty solicitor to park in the court car park since disbursements cannot be claimed.

I was informed by security at Croydon magistrates court a month ago that Michelle the main court clerk has told security not to allow court duty solicitors access to the court car park. This is despite 50% of the car park being empty.
Prosecution and probation are however allowed access to use the car park.

We should get paid disbursements particularly since we are not travelling to our local courts.

The discrimination against Defence solicitors on every level is breath taking!

Best regards

The whole principle of not paying for travel for court duties was based ( I think and someone who was there at the beginning May correct me if I am wrong ) on the premise that you served your local court which was traditionally very close your high street office ( hence payments for travel From home on Saturdays )

No to not have high street offices disputed but so have the courts that they were opened next to .

This certainly needs a re set

Ask them to pay us!

They have always taken the stance that we can only hold duties or get paid for travel where we do not travel more than 45 minutes to a court from our office…so now they are burdening us with considerably longer journeys they should pay us travel and mileage.

My round trip to Wimbledon or Lavender Hill will probably take about 4 hours but my duty attendance claim will probably only amount to 4hours as well. So for @ 8 hours commitment I will earn @£200 and put 60 miles on my car – oh and parking costs too!

We are complete and utter mugs!

To all concerned

The LAA have decided we will carry out our Bexley Court rotas at Wimbledon for the foreseeable…is anyone aware of them offering to pay us for the considerable additional travel time and mileage?

Have I missed something?
