Hi , I think there is a collapse at the junior end of both the Bar and in Solicitors firms , it is a talent drain reflecting poor prospects and the economics of legal aid , the other side of the coin of the rising age profile of Duty Solicitors .Covid has exacerbated the problem as many firms have recognised the grave hazard that police stations and courts present but also the effect of falling volumes .Delays in the Crown Court and economic consequences have also caused furloughs of staff .

So a combination of the effects of 25 years of political decisions to cut legal aid rates and scope , grossly under invest in the Court estate , slash Court administration and the incompetent management of the Covid crisis means there are shadows where there should be people .

Subject: can you get cover

Dar colleagues

There was a piece in the Times earlier this week about the shortage of available counsel and solicitors .

I have noted on this list that deposit numerous requests for cover , there appears to be a shortage of confirmation that cover has been obtained .

Are people finding cover more difficult to find ? is it summer holidays , self-isolation or simply fewer people willing to go to court for low legal aid fees ?
