The inference from the lack of mention of any exception being specified is that none applied. The email served no purpose otherwise. It is not news that a remote hearing was allowed because one of the exceptional circumstances applied.

The entirely unexceptional means of avoiding the need to attend and abide by the protocol is to successfully argue Annex B applies as it could well do in the majority of arrests. That does not permit remote attendance at interview though rather than there being no oral interview at all rather than a written statement under caution.

That’s not only exception.  If police feel  they cannot offer a safe environment they can allow remote interviews.  There are 4 exceptions.

Why would it be zero audited?

It must have been subject to 1 of the exceptions or the police would not have allowed it.

Kind Regards

Subject: Police station - remote attendances

Dear members

I have just been told by a custody sergeant at Hammersmith police station that remote attendances have ceased from 4th October 2021 unless there are exceptional circumstances and that this is the new protocol.

Can anyone confirm the new protocol?

Kind regards
