I was searched at Thames a couple of weeks ago as the button on the pad was red. I was made to empty my 2 bags completely despite having a court user ID card. They had to see "the bottom of my bags ". I said to the security officer the LCCSA mentioned those with court user ID cards should only be subject to cursory search. He reply was "We are not the LCCSA, we are court security! ".
I have witnessed male colleagues having to remove their belts at Stratford and others have had to remove their shoes.
In my opinion, it is a power craze and nothing to do with security or keeping the court buildings safe.

I have witnessed a similar incident to Shofna where during a lengthy queue a person questioning the slowness of the security officers was physically removed with excessive force. I myself have been spoken to quite rudely. They seem to have a overly defensive pack mentality which does a disservice to the court.

Dear Shofna

Funny you should say that – Mark past Pres raised it and I have tried to get this resolved. I had a reply this morning from MOJ asking for input from HMCTS. Basically MOJ will not fund it as we have to be Terrorism cleared.

I will keep at it – it is in my interest as you know – I go through the humiliation of taking my laptop out opening it to show I haven’t hidden something it daily / twice daily.

Subject: LCCSA court users cards and entry to courts

Dear members,

I know this has been raised before but does anyone know why with a court users card we are unable to gain access to Westminster MC with relative ease and speed.

Instead we are waiting a long time in a lengthy queue to gain entry. The over jealous security here not only ask " certain" people to empty their bags item by item ( I had the pleasure today!). I witnessed only one person searching despite many hanging around and when one defendant asked them to hurry up, about 10 of them physically removed him at the front door which in my opinion was excessive and unwarranted. No doubt a warrant ,now issued for his non attendance.

I questioned their "selective" searching and also the quality of their searches ( on the basis that i attend the court often and at times my small compact mirror is not taken from me and sometime it it!).

Please can anyone - Fadi our president do anything?

regards
