I just had a quick look at Snaresbrook’s Listings tomorrow and Courts 1-5 are not sitting at all.

Subject: RE: court delays - the system is breaking
As most know WMC is a regular destination
These things have been raised – I even raised it today at an LCJB / MOPAC meeting (at the Mayors office)- lifts, broken seating, broken seating in the consultation
cubicles in the cells, not able to see clients over lunch, lights……….and to add Theresa - there was a leak in court 5 on Monday it smelt – through the ceiling – as my client was being dealt in the dock, with – blue bucket catching little of water as it
meandered around the TV screen – and legal adviser trying to catch the water in the bucket – as it landed on her face
Cells forgot a def a couple of weeks ago
Disabled toilets that don’t flush
Oh and going back to clients - - mental health clients left unrepresented
Not to mention our interaction with LAA – another list for another time perhaps
And the list goes on - broken system

Dear all,
I have just left Westminster MC, where the Wi-Fi is not working, defendants were not being brought to court because of faulty drains in the cells and cases taking place on CVP from police stations could not be dealt with today as papers
were not available on common platform. Those whose cases could not be heard were remanded in custody overnight in the Police Station.
One of the lifts at the court has been out of order for 3 years, video equipment is not working in at least one of the courts and court managers and legal advisers are calling the lists as there are so few list callers.
Last month I arrived for a hearing at 9am to be told by the gaolers that my client had refused to be produced from Wandsworth. The list caller and I checked several times and were told he had not been produced and his case was adjourned
in his absence. He was ‘found’ at 4.45pm, having been produced from Wandsworth and left in a cell all day without any food or drink.
The legal advisers and magistrates simply continue as if nothing is concerning and many of the problems are simply ignored.
The system is completely broken.
Could the LCCSA please provide a letter for all solicitors that we can send to outer MPs and ask for an urgent meeting with the justice secretary.

Dear colleagues,
This is what I have just received from Snaresbrook Crown Court …..the latest of several similar emails from other courts recently:
“Dear Sirs,
I write to you with regards to the above named case due to be heard at Snaresbrook Crown Court on week commencing 6th January 2025. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of cases the court is unable to accommodate this matter on its previously listed date.
We have administratively re-listed the trial to 24th November 2027 with a PTR on 27th October 2027 and COTR due in by 13th September 2027.
The court apologises for any inconvenience caused. “
This particular client has been waiting for his trial since August 2023.
‘How bad can it get?’ I ask myself
