Dear members,

 

Many of us have been banging on for ages about how unfair it is that “sexting”,  a central plank of modern day dating, is illegal for young people under the age of 18 - making young people guilty of possession of an indecent image of a child with the lifetime of disclosure that follows and has the potential to ruin otherwise productive lives. Just for Kids Law (JFK) is trying to do something to challenge this (think lobbying the police regarding the way in which  they exercise their discretion, seeking legislative change and looking for strategic cases to challenge). I thought we could help.

 

Have you worked on any cases where police have become involved following:

 

1) Consensual sharing of pictures by children of a similar age;

2) Sending or receipt of a one-off image.

 

If so, JFK are looking for case studies to support the arguments for change. Cases can be discussed with you anonymously and if your clients want to tell their own story directly, they again can do so anonymously.
