Again I agree - but we keep signing up to contracts that make no provision for any remuneration. What do you suggest?

Their is no justification or argument for not paying professionals for the time spent engaged in perusal of unused material. Swings and Roundabouts arguments just don't cut it for me I'm afraid, I played on those as a child in the playground, I don't expect them to be mentioned when it comes to payment for professional services.

Austerity is a political choice not a necessity, It's a failed project that's reaping no benefits because the national debt not spending on legal aid has spiralled out of control.

I think the argument that we don’t get paid for reading any unused but spend our life on big cases pursuing and reading unused and now we are expected to not be paid for reading used ppe is made good by this case, and many other cases.

Part of the reason Sam Hallam spent 8 years in prison was because of stuff hidden in the unused.

I agree pretty shocking this stuff was not even put on unused schedule.

It does help with future disclosure requests but the press reports are unclear. I’m assuming the phone download wasn’t even on the MG6C or referred to in crime report as otherwise I’m sure the defence would have pushed for this at an earlier stage - especially as I’m sure their client would have been banging on about the fact there were exculpatory messages?

However I’m not sure how 40,000 unused messages help with any JR?

Absolutely, we should share this and what games cps play on social media to raise public awareness and opinion against it.

See below everyone, does this at all sound familiar, CPS seem to be more worried about an increased PPE and payments to defence lawyers rather than acting in the interests of justice:  #ShameOnThem

HHJ advised:
"of 'serious miscarriages of justice' when he heard that documents were not always sent to defence lawyers in order to keep costs at a minimum."
