Dear members,
Please see below an invitation from Katy Thorne of Doughty Street for LCCSA members to join Women in Criminal Law and attend their launch event on 1/3/18 with an impressive line-up of speakers (flyer attached).
Kind regards,
Mark Troman
I know you all know that we are having our Women in Criminal Law launch event on the 1st March 2018. But we need to spread the word amongst your members. Can you put the word out in any LCCSA
information? They need to join
here (and the website will fill them in about what we are)
And they also need to click on this
link to say they are coming. Invitation attached.
This the blurb I send out, but feel free to alter.
WOMEN IN CRIMINAL LAW or WICL sets out to connect and promote professional women across the criminal justice sector. Working to support, inspire, mentor, empower and
encourage women working in criminal law. Our membership includes solicitors, barristers, judges and female criminal clerks. We are hoping that the MOJ will allow court clerks to join too. Its prosecution and defence, public and privately funded. The idea
is that we are a voice for women working in this sector, but most importantly we provide the opportunity for us to meet, network and support each other. We are hoping to ensure that more than just 25% of partners are women, and that we have women in the “top
starred individuals” sections of the 2 Bar Directories (there is currently 1 out of about 30 names at the moment), and that the shameful lack of women in the senior judiciary is remedied. That’s our long term goal, but along the way we want to provide a supportive
and encouraging environment in this most male of worlds. Our founder members include the DPP, judges, criminal silks, partners in criminal firms, very senior CPS women, pupils, trainees and paralegals. Our patron is Hallett LJ.
