Dear All

The issue regarding the extremely limited cell capacity at Croydon Magistrates' Court due to heating problems has not been resolved. In order to facilitate prompt hearings for those detained in custody the decision has been taken to temporarily divert some custodies from appearing in person at Croydon MC.

The default position is of course that all appropriate cases should continue to be heard via the virtual court or PCVL.

With effect from the 14 March all ADULT overnights for Croydon MC deemed not to be suitable within the published criteria for a virtual hearing should be produced at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court. In addition, if the PCVL is not deployed, custody remands should also be adjourned over to Camberwell for subsequent hearings. Those booking adult custody trials may consider it more prudent to fix trials at Camberwell Green rather than Croydon to free up the limited cell capacity at Croydon.

Youth detainees, overnight and remands, will continue to be dealt with at Croydon and wheelchair users who require access to the appropriate lift.

Duty solicitors and solicitors for overnight adult detainees should be advised to attend Camberwell Green MC.

Please feel free to pass on this information as necessary.

Regards

Louise

The nightmare continues.......

Croydon has problems with temperature controls in the cells. Until further notice, Adult custody overnights will be dealt with at Camberwell. Virtuals from Croydon will be listed at Camberwell anyway. Youth custody overnights will remain at Croydon as will any wheelchair users charged.

Bail cases remain at Croydon as well as any custody remands.

I assume that this means that Custody Duties will be required to be at Camberwell, but I would check personally with Croydon before you set off.......

We await news from Highbury Corner, but as yet they are not being moved........So far Thames and City seem unaffected but who know when the saboteurs will strike next........

best wishes
