Bar action - impact on solicitors
The Law Society is aware that in some parts of the country solicitors are coming under pressure from the court where counsel has declined to act in a Crown Court matter.

We are re-circulating the link to our guidance, which sets out the ethical, contractual and practical issues arising from this situation. The guidance has been updated in response to a note that was circulated by the Northern Circuit Judges. We are reviewing the note further in light of recent events, and are taking legal advice on solicitors’ rights and obligations in the face of demands from the courts.

Please get in touch with us by email if you are facing a situation which you believe is not covered by the guidance.

Crowdfunding for judicial review of Housing Possession Court Duty Scheme (HPCDS)
The Law Centres Network (LCN) represented by the Public Law Project is judicially reviewing the MoJ regarding changes to the HPCDS. The changes include price competitive tendering for HPCDS contracts, which is potentially significant for all legal aid providers.

Permission has been granted and the case is listed for a two-day hearing commencing on 21 May. The LCN is crowdfunding to raise £5,000 to cover expenses such as pre-hearing costs and disbursements.
