The problem with option 2, is that the police won't actually tell the dsc that it is a harrow matter, they will simply identity that they are calling from either Colindale PS, or Wembley PS,  and dsc will allocate it to either Colindale or Wembley duty scheme.

This has been what has been happening when Acton/ Ealing, or central London prisoners, are taken to Wandsworth ps,  the jobs are logged as Wandsworth ps cases, and allocated to the duty scheme that covers Wandsworth PS.

Subject: Harrow Police Station closure - please respond by Friday 12th October

Dear Duty Rota Members

The Metropolitan Police Service have made a decision to close the Harrow Police Station Custody Suite from 12th November 2018. This Police Station is served by the Harrow Duty Solicitor Scheme.

Those arrested will be taken to either Wembley (603 Harrow Road) or Colindale (Grahame Park Way, Hendon) Custody Suites depending on availability of cell space.

The Harrow Custody Suite will remain as a contingency suite and will open when required should Wembley or Colindale have to shut for a period of time or for times when a particular police operation would require a separate custody suite.

You are being contacted as you are either a member of the affected scheme or could be affected should the schemes merge. We would like to know which process you would prefer to happen when the Harrow Police Station closes on 12th November.

Option 1

Merge the schemes.

Option 2

Eligibility remains the same and the Harrow Scheme closes.

Option 2

The schemes remain unchanged. The Met Police have confirmed that the relevant Custody Units will be able to identify and flag Harrow cases when contacting the DSCC. The DSCC call handlers will be asked to double check incoming Wembley or Colindale cases to flag for Harrow cases. This will ensure the appropriate Duty Solicitor is deployed. We can review this arrangement in the future should it appear that this process is not being successfully followed.

Please could you let me know which option you prefer by end of Friday 12th October 2018 by sending me an email at hilary.watson@justice.gov.uk.

Kind regards

Hilary
