I think whether something is a knuckle duster or not is whether it falls under the definition of section 141(a) with the criminal justice act 1988.

Also, the ring on a karambit knife is designed to prevent the knife coming out of the hand of the user rather than as a knuckle duster. However, my experience of Filipino martial arts is that they do teach using the ring part of the knife as an impact weapon, so I could perhaps understand why it might’ve been described as a knuckle duster although it’s technically not used in that way.

You might want to find a Filipino martial arts instructor in your area if there is one.
