Bail hostels for homeless granted bail Theresa Hendrickx 28 Apr 2026 12:24 BST

Dear all

I was unable to attend the meeting yesterday.

I am representing a client who was granted bail in the magistrates court and elected Crown Court trial with a trial fixed in October 2029. He is unable to stay in the accommodation to which he was bailed and has been arrested for breaching his bail. He is 26 years old.

I’ll be grateful if anyone has any guidance in relation to applying for an approved accommodation place which I understand are available for those on bail (as well as those leaving custody).

I’ve written to the Probation service at the magistrates court where the breach is being heard, but have had no response. I made the same request yesterday and that was also ignored.

I’ve previously seen some Home office guidance which suggests that Probation service should consider accessing approved accommodation where someone who would normally be granted bail is unable to comply with conditions due to homelessness.

I’ll be really grateful if someone could point me in the direction of that guidance or any other document I can refer the Probation service and the court to.

Thanks in advance
